Hayato Tanaka is a playable character that first appeared in the first Killing Floor as a cross-promotion along with Ricky Vegas and the Rising Storm Tommy Gun. They were awarded to players who owned the Digital Deluxe Edition of Rising Storm.

Hayato Tanaka then returned in Killing Floor 2 with a new backstory. He also has a set of DLC Gear exclusive to him, Tanaka's Biker Bundle.

Killing Floor Description

Tanaka had been talked into doing some voice acting for a mate, who was building some video game. Then he'd got talked into dressing up in period Japanese military gear for publicity photos. As a Japanese-American with Yakuza aspirations, this was rather beneath his dignity, but he needed the dosh, so he had to grin and bear it. On the other hand, having military hardware on hand, including a genuine Katana, when the Zeds exploded into the studio was a stroke of luck. The Yakuza may have been eaten before Tanaka got a chance to join them - but at least he can do the full tenno heika banzai legitimately on a bunch of freaks!

Killing Floor 2 Description

Tanaka is a conflicted individual, with a serious death-wish problem. Born in Okinawa, he was brought up around Americans in the military. Moving to mainland Japan with his family, the Americanised Tanaka failed to fit in and took up drama classes. After college he moved to LA, playing cliched bit-parts in bad movies, before moving on to Europe trying to find more "serious" work. All he got there were bad-guy roles in French gangster films and some tats. Now, in the apocalypse, he seems to be confusing his own reality with some of the movie parts he has played. This seems to involve visions of the Yakuza, demons and a Hollywood take on Bushido.

Trivia

• Hayato Tanaka is the only cross-promotional character to return in Killing Floor 2, albeit with a completely new backstory.
